Women's Health Osteopathy

Specialist women's health osteopathy clinic

Thoughtful care for women through change

Women’s Health Osteopathy focuses on the structural and hormonal changes women experience through pregnancy, postnatal recovery and midlife.

This area of practice reflects additional postgraduate training and a dedicated clinical focus in pelvic health. We work with women experiencing pelvic pain, bladder symptoms, abdominal separation, pregnancy-related discomfort and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Appointments are person-led and tailored to you. Following a detailed discussion and assessment, treatment may include hands-on techniques, movement-based rehabilitation and clear guidance. Where appropriate, we work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and may recommend onward referral.

The aim is to help you feel stronger, more confident and at ease in your body.

  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Pelvic floor symptoms, including bladder or bowel changes
  • Abdominal separation (diastasis recti)

  • Core weakness or reduced stability
  • Aches and stiffness associated with perimenopause and menopause

If you’re unsure whether women’s health osteopathy is right for you, we’re always happy to talk it through.

Frequently asked questions about women's health osteopathy

What can I expect from my first women's health osteopathy appointment?

Your first session begins with time to talk – we listen to your story and understand what matters most to you. Then we gently assess how your body is functioning and explain our findings in clear, plain language before discussing treatment options.

Case history

We begin with time to talk, giving you space to share your symptoms, questions and priorities in a calm, unrushed setting.

Assessment

We assess how your body is functioning as a whole, explaining what we’re looking at and why as we go.

Diagnosis

Findings are shared in clear, plain English, helping you understand what’s happening in your body and what support may help.

Treatment

Treatment is gentle and tailored to you, combining hands-on care and guidance to support recovery at a pace that feels right.

Women attend with a range of concerns including pregnancy-related pain, postnatal recovery, pelvic pain, bladder symptoms, abdominal separation, coccyx pain and scar discomfort after birth or surgery. Some women are looking for support returning to exercise, while others are navigating changes around midlife.

Many also come with symptoms they have been told are “normal” after pregnancy or childbirth but that continue to affect how they feel and move.

An internal pelvic floor assessment may sometimes be helpful but it is never automatic. It will only be discussed if clinically appropriate and always with your full consent. External assessment alone can often provide valuable information.

Yes. Pelvic health symptoms don’t have a time limit. Whether your baby is six weeks or sixteen years old, it’s never too late to seek support.

Treatment should not be painful. Techniques are adapted to your comfort levels and explained as we go so you always understand what is happening.

Yes. Treatment can be adapted safely during pregnancy to support comfort, mobility and preparation for birth.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the nature of your symptoms and your goals. Some women benefit from just a few

sessions, while others need a short course of treatment to support recovery.
